Birchall Great Rift Decaf Rainforest Tea (15 Prism Teabags)

Birchall has expertly sourced the very finest selection of estate grown teas from across East Africa and the Great Rift Valley to produce a cup of tea that is caffeine free, but bright and full of flavour. They ensure that all the tea leaves are hand plucked before being carefully decaffeinated, giving Birchall Great Rift Decaf its exceptional brightness, golden colour and a strong refreshing taste.

The unique shape of the prism teabags and the biodegradable mesh netting are designed to give the purest possible infusion.

It's a little known fact that most teabags contain plastics. All of Birchall's award-winning prism teas are plastic-free, instead usung a biodegradable corn starch called “SoilOn”, which originates from plants. This means that they will break down under certain environmental conditions, through a process which usually takes between 2-4 years in soil or water. They do, however, degrade much more rapidly (within 12 weeks) when disposed of through an industrial food waste system and so we strongly recommend that you find out from your local council if it offers a food waste recycling collection service in your area and if so, discard them through this.

Each box contains 15 premium prism teabags.

Estate Grown Teas from East Africa

We consider our signature black teas to be truly special and unique in the tea world and we’d like to tell you why. Our black teas are all sourced exclusively from the finest tea estates across East Africa, from Rwanda through to the Great Rift Valley in Kenya; this is generally considered to be where the very best teas are to be found. This equatorial region’s altitude, high rainfall and rich volcanic soil provide the ideal conditions that are integral to growing tea of unparalleled flavour and taste.

The Pfunda Tea Estate is widely regarded as Rwanda’s leading tea estate and is situated in the north-west province of the country, 4 hours drive from the capital Kigali, in an area known as the Congo-Nile Crest, above Lake Kivu and below the Nyiragongo Volcano.

“East Africa is one of the largest tea exporters in the world.”

Pfunda concentrates on producing the finest tea, focusing on quality not quantity. The very best tea bushes are carefully selected for the estate and the saplings from these are grown in the on-site nursery. When the nursery manager judges them to be ready they are taken out for planting.
