A1 Coffee Environmental Information

Packaging

Wherever possible, we use recycled cardboard boxes and paper for packaging your order for delivery. Your goods may therefore be delivered in a box that originally stored a different product – this not only reduces the amount of cardboard waste collected from our warehouse, but also contributes to keeping our prices down. It is a policy that is very popular with our customers. We do also have our own boxes printed and made specially for us - these are kept to plain brown and black to reduce the ink used in the production process.

Our glass bottles of flavouring syrups are shipped in inflated plastic airshock bags. This not only reduces the chances of breakages when in the hands of our couriers, but it greatly reduces the volume of packaging materials needed. Some of our competitors use large quantities of shredded paper and cardboard, polystyrene and other methods, all of which are less environmentally friendly. For order over 60 bottles, we usually send the consignment on a pallet, which further reduces the packaging required.

We also endeavour to source as many products as possible with recyclable packaging and encourage our customers to recycle the packaging again when they have finished with it.

Recycling

We take our own recycling responsibilities very seriously. We recycle all waste cardboard, and shred waste paper for use in packing small fragile items for delivery where necessary. We also recycle printer and toner cartridges and use low energy lighting and heating in our own offices. The use of non-biodegradable materials such as plastics are kept to a minimum where at all possible in all of our packaging. Where possible, we stock products that have recyclable packaging, and the vast majority of our disposable takeaway cups and carry trays are also made from recyclable materials.

Ethical Products

In addition to our own recycling and energy efficiency policies, we are also proud to offer a range of ethical products where possible. These include an extensive range of Fairtrade products as well as organic coffee. We have introduced the Clipper Fairtrade range of products as they appeal to many customers and fit in with the rest of our range perfectly. We also stock a wide range of organic products which perfectly compliments our Fairtrade range. We also have a number of products that are Rainforest Alliance certified, including a wide range of tea that is responsibly sourced.

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations:

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (or WEEE) Regulations are now UK law. All European member States including the UK have agreed to reduce the amount of WEEE that is being disposed of in landfill sites. This is particularly important because some WEEE can be re-used or recycled, UK landfill space is decreasing and in some cases, WEEE can contain hazardous substances.

However, you can now return your WEEE to a local Civic Amenity site free of charge.
